Wilkes University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Department of Integrative Media, Art + Design beginning Fall 2018. The department offers the B.A. and B.F.A. degrees within an interdisciplinary educational experience that combines a solid visual design and technology core curriculum with the choice of one or more minors in art, communication studies, computer science, English, business, or theatre.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching courses in the areas of graphic design, interactive media (web design), and design foundations. A background in traditional studio arts is a plus. An additional secondary focus in one or more of the following areas is desirable: animation, digital video, film theory, compositing, programming for visual media, digital sound design/music theory, and concept development. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Scholarship, university and community service, advising, and mentorship of students are also expected.

Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree (M.F.A. preferred), and/or extensive professional experience, and prior teaching experience at the university or college level.   Ideal candidates will have a good mix of skills in both design and technology. As a department, we are dedicated to inspiring strong concepts and an independent thought process. We strive to encourage students to develop a personal aesthetic, to expose them to cutting-edge design approaches, and to prepare them for careers in the ever-changing digital production industry.

Please be sure to include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and a summary of course evaluations, three letters of recommendation, student and personal work examples, and graduate transcripts. Review of applications will begin on November 27, and will continue until the position is filled. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Eric Ruggiero at 570-408-4508 or eric.ruggiero@wilkes.edu.

Wilkes University is constantly seeking to become a more diverse community and to enhance its capacity to value and capitalize on the cultural richness that diversity brings. The University strongly encourages applications from persons with diverse backgrounds.
