Adjunct ESL Instructors, Intensive English Language Program  Wilkes University Intensive English Program (IEP) seeks adjunct instructors to teach 25 hours a week for the Spring 2020 semester.  The positions involve teaching multilevel IEP courses from 8:00am to 2:00p Monday through Thursday, and 8:00am to 11:00am on Fridays.  With future teaching opportunities a possibility, the IEP runs three semesters a year. The IEP is seeking qualified instructors with experience teaching in a highly academic program where coursework focuses on English as a Second Language reading, writing, grammar, listening/speaking, and academic vocabulary across five levels, ranging from beginner to advanced.  Applicants should be passionate teachers who show exceptional classroom skills, with a strong background in language teaching, and who can fully prepare international students for American university life. Instructors who are highly motivated and dedicated to professional development are especially encouraged to apply.   In addition, the program is expanding into English for Specific purposes programs  so individuals with content area expertise are high encouraged to apply.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to the Director of the IEP, adjunct instructors teach up to 25 hours per week in the program, and also carry out other duties assigned by the Director. Applicants must have the ability to work with individuals from diverse locations and cultures.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: Adjunct instructor candidates should have university-level ESL teaching experience, preferably in an intensive English language program. Specifically, they must have a Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or ESL Education in hand. We will also consider candidates with a Master's degree in English, Linguistics, or Education, who have a ESL Certification, if they have had at least three years experience teaching in an Intensive English program, teaching ESL adults, or teaching internationally.
  • CLOSING DATE: Classes start in January 2020. Review of applications will start immediately and continue until all positions are filled.
  • SALARY: The salary is hourly and highly competitive among universities in the region.
